With GOOGLE FIBER

Got Speed? Internet speed that is. Ever since the Internet became a common household and business necessity, the speed at which you get “online" has been a hot topic with consumers and Internet Service Providers(ISPs).

Consumers want higher speeds and cheaper prices while ISPs want you to believe they offer the fastest speeds at the most competitive pricing.  Until recently, providing Internet services has generally been the sole domain of telephone and cable companies.

Google is usually thought of as a search, collaboration and messaging service, but not for long. The company has been busy establishing itself in the ISP sector with their Google Fiber service.

Google Fiber is Google’s own fiber internet service which provides Internet speeds up to 100 times faster than typical broadband speeds. As an example, with speeds up to 1,000 megabits per second, Google customers can download 100 photos in 3 seconds, while a typical 10 megabits per second connection will take 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

The benefits of higher speeds are also seen in Google’s HD TV service, with higher bandwidth there is less need for compression, resulting in even clearer TV image.  Other features include a 2 terabit(TB) DVR, 1TB cloud storage, fast WIFI and an app available for yoiur iOS or Android device which allows it to act as a remote control.

Kansas City, Missouri, Provo, Utah, and Austin, Texas are the first cities to have Google Fiber. Plans are in the works to bring it to other metropolitan areas. You can find more information on Google Fiber https://fiber.google.com/about/.
