Rommel Hidalgo

Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer


 

Rommel Hidalgo became the Vice President for the Division of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer for California State University, Fullerton, in March 2023.

At Cal State Fullerton, Mr. Hidalgo oversees all enterprise services of IT in support of the university's mission and strategic plan. He has over 27 years of experience in information technology and is the former Chief Information Officer for the University of Guam.

Over the years, in various IT roles, Rommel has worked closely with IT leadership to transform CSUF into a model 21st-Century learning environment that is secure and sustainable. With his help, the Division of Information Technology has empowered our students to become digital citizens and to utilize immersive technology in curricular and co-curricular instruction.

In 2015, after nearly 16 years of service at Cal State Fullerton, Rommel became the first Chief Information Officer for the University of Guam. He helped transform IT at UoG and implemented the Trans-Pacific Guam Open Research & Education eXchange (GOREX).  As of January 2018, with the help of the University of Hawai'i system, the island of Guam connected to the global research and education networking fabric at an ultra-high speed of 100 Gigabits per second.  Rommel was also the Principal Investigator in a National Science Foundation Campus CyberInfrastructure Network Design award (OAC-1659182) and a collaborator in Guam's NSF EPSCoR - Guam Ecosystems Collaboratorium project. These initiatives improved the mission-critical services' availability to the UoG community. 

Rommel is a first-generation University of Guam and California State University, Fullerton graduate.  He holds a BA in Psychology and an MBA from the University of Guam, and a Master of Science degree in Management Science/Information Systems from Cal State Fullerton.  He is also a 2010 graduate of the Cal State Fullerton Leadership Development Program initiative created by the late President Milton A. Gordon.  Rommel continues to teach for the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department of the Cal State Fullerton College of Business and Economics.
