Dear Prospective Students and Guests,

Welcome to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences!  Our college includes more than 20 departments and degree programs that are united by a common mission: to make sense of society and humanity and use that critical insight to make the world a more just and enriching place. Our graduates do just that in a range of careers; they become teachers, lawyers, therapists, data analysts, program managers, strategic analysts, criminal investigators, and non-profit executives, to a name a few examples. Our Passage to the Future program will structure your path to post-graduation success and provide you with mentorship and paid internships, either locally, in Washington, D.C., through our DC Scholars program, or in London through our Spring semester abroad. If you aspire to become a college professor, the Mellon May Undergraduate Fellowship will mentor you on the path to graduate school. 

By joining a major in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences you not only gain the benefit of top-not curriculum taught by world class professors and dedicated academic advisors who guide you through your academic journey. You also have access to college-wide programs that prepare you to become leaders in your field. Participate in the Latinx Lab for Storytelling to learn how to document local community’s stories and present those stories to the public. Want to present those stories digitally? Digital Ethnic Futures fellows become adept at using technology like Python, text mining, Google earth, and virtual reality (VR) to make history come alive. If you are interested in sustainability, as a U-Acre fellow you will promote urban food systems by working on the farm in the campus arboretum. And as a member of the nationally-recognized Moot Court team you will hone your legal knowledge and forensic skills. 

We want CSUF to be your intellectual home and we provide ample spaces for you to set your roots. The HSS Interclub Council (ICC) provides leadership opportunities for students in the College, as well as promoting communication among more than 50 clubs and organizations run by and for Humanities and Social Sciences students. We are particularly proud of our Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation, where students and faculty collaborate on projects that are rooted in black art, history, culture, and business.
