Polarization Setup and Information

Equipment

Student Stations

  • 1 Optical Bench
  • 1 Screen
  • 3 Polarizers
  • 1 Red Pomona Wire
  • 1 Black Pomona Wire
  • 1 LED Box
  • 1 Light Sensor
  • 1 Digital Multimeter

Setup Instructions

Student Stations

  1. Verify that all materials are present before proceeding to set up lab.
  2. The screen should be facing the computers and attached to the optical bench.
  3. Insert fully charged 9V Light Sensor Batteries.
  4. Hook up the multimeter to the light sensor for reading Hz. Use proper Hz measure ports and turn dial to Hz.
  5. The professor station should have two extra Multimeters, extra 9v batteries, extra polarizers, and left over LED Boxes.
  6. For the light sources: Verify the power switch is set to off (0, toward the power inputs), then hook up the power to the Light source box BEFORE CONNECTING TO WALL POWER
  7. Connect the power and verify the box is off and the black dial is set to the 505nm setting.
    1. Take care not to touch the leads of the power supply together, that will destroy them

Instructor Station

  1. Insure at least two extra fully charged multimeters supplied
  2. Leave fully charged 9Vs
  3. Any available extra polarizers and LED boxes.

Teardown Notes

  1. Remove and charge Light source batteries
  2. Disconnect power supply from the wall source before removing from led source.
