Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System (STARS)

STARS is a comprehensive tool of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) that enables universities to gauge their progress toward sustainability. It assesses all facets of our institution—curriculum and research, campus operations, planning and institutional capacity— with the goal of aiding strategic planning, fostering cross-sector dialogue about sustainability on campus, and stimulating conversations and learning between institutions.

CSUF Current STARS Ranking

In 2012, CSUF completed its first STARS report, earning a Silver Rating. In its most recent 2022 report, the campus earned a Gold Rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements including increasing sustainability course offerings, research, reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, additional water refill stations, and water conservation efforts.
