Best Advice: Start small and expand

Start with the layout builder.  Watch the video to see it in action and remember layouts are custom built by you, and can be changed at any time.

Start with the least amount of blocks you might need and adding extra space isn't a chore.

Any blank sections not part of a row with content will not publish, but will be there in edit mode.  Reduce your clutter by creating a layout that meets your need.  If that's only one section, then just use one section and add more when needed.

Don't fall for the copy/paste trap!

Are you starting with an existing site and is your first instinct is to just replicate it?

Do not miss the chance to make it better:

  • Update the layout
  • Delete outdated content
  • Change font size for emphasis
  • Add bullets to reduce paragraphs

TLDR: Editing saves pages

Less is more and dynamic content could be even better.  Learn about the latest tools, what they can do, and make sure its not TDLR.

Putting it all together with style

Style is key to getting attention, once the layout is ready and you know what to say then let the styles help the content shine.  Just as with layouts, don't change the styles on every page or use too many at once.  Be choosy with your style and create a theme based on a few select pieces.

Make a guide for the team

We crafted a theme for our web services site to help the team behind the content stay on track.  It can make sure that each page, reguardless of layout, feels familiary and users will flow through the site with ease.

This page isn't something that needs to be linked from your public website but having a page you can share with other stakeholders will help make the process of building a site much easier.
