Data Talk Series

  • 10/09/23 - Student Experience Data: Interested in learning about how our graduating seniors think about what they learned and gained at CSUF, how our freshmen and seniors are engaging with faculty and peers, or how students perceive the various engagement opportunities and campus environment in general? Please join us and review some of our large-scale student experience survey data such as the Undergraduate Exit Survey and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), and how you can utilize students’ responses to better understand their engagement choices and experiences and to improve programs that facilitate learning and personal development.
  • 11/13/23 - CSUF GI 2025 Progress: Curious about CSUF’s progress in meeting our GI 2025 goals?  GI 2025 is the CSU’s ambitious initiative to increase graduation rates, eliminate equity gaps in degree completion, and meet California’s workforce needs.  Join us to learn more about the tools available to track how CSUF is doing in meeting our GI 2025 goals and how you can take advantage of them too!
  • 2/12/2024 - Data Literacy: Do you ever wonder what is the difference between course-based and major-based FTEs, or how do we calculate a graduation rate, or what is the difference between state-support and self-support enrollment, or what does underrepresent really mean?  You are not alone!  Please join us to learn more about all these data and more.

  • 02/21/22 - NSSE Dashboards: Interested in learning about how our freshmen and seniors spend their time and what they gain from attending college?  Specifically, how do they perceive various engagement indicators, high-impact practices, inclusiveness and engagement with diversity, civic engagement at CSUF?  Please join us to learn more about the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Dashboard and how you can interpret students’ responses to better understand participation in programs and activities that aid in their learning and personal development.
  • 04/18/22 - Student Success Dashboards (Tableau and OBIEE): Student success is in our DNA at CSUF!  But how successful are our students, especially when we disaggregate by student populations and programs? This interactive workshop will provide an opportunity to learn more about the many Student Success dashboards available at CSUF, how you can use them to gain insight into student success challenges, and how you can identify the next steps and actions.
  • 05/09/22 - Qualtrics Design 101: Qualtrics has a new user interface. Need help getting reacquainted or new to Qualtrics surveys? Then this is the workshop for you! Overview will cover configuring your survey (including using display and skip logic), options for distributing your survey, downloading your data, and running basic reports. Please bring your survey questions and your curiosity and join us for a hands-on Qualtrics survey design workshop!

  • 10/05/20 - Faculty Student Success Dashboards: The Faculty Student Success Dashboard (FSSD) is a comprehensive data visualization toolset for faculty to conveniently access their courses and observe how their work is reflected in overall and individual student success indicators. It is developed by IT, in collaboration with campus partners. In this session, IT will provide you with a demo of the dashboard, the status of the project, and its development. 
  • 11/16/20 - CSUF Data and Me:  Data are everywhere. What data are used at CSUF to inform decision making?  What data are available to faculty and staff? How are the data collected and managed?  Learn more about the data infrastructure at CSUF and how you can take advantage of them too! 
  • 02/22/21 - Tableau Dashboards:  Tableau is one of most popular data visualization tools, and CSUF has it!  Several Tableau dashboards – public and internal – have been built to display a wide variety of data about the university.  Learn more about how to use this powerful tool!  
  • 03/15/21 - OBIEE Dashboards: Ever wonder how much information does the CSUF portal provide?  Come to this session to learn about the OBIEE dashboards -- a powerful source of information embedded in the portal -- that allow access to valuable student and faculty data.  You will even learn what OBIEE stands for! Specifically, we will dive deep into the Student Success and Registration Snapshot Dashboards.  The Student Success Dashboards track CSUF freshman and undergraduate transfer cohorts and their progress towards graduation.  The Registration Snapshot Dashboards track college enrollment by headcount and FTES, by the college of the student major and by the college that offers the course, in addition to class enrollment tallies.
  • 04/19/21 - Chancellor's Office Student Success Dashboards: This workshop will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Chancellor’s Office CSU Student Success Dashboard from its developers. The main focus will be how you can use this tool to gain insight into student success challenges at Fullerton and identify next steps and actions. After a short walk-through of the Dashboard by its developers, participants will undertake guided, interactive activities and facilitated discussions to increase both proficiency with the dashboard itself and skill at inferring meaning from it.
