Advisement Tracks Courses
Advisement tracks should be planned in consultation with the Human Services Advisor. A study plan should be approved before enrollment in the classes.

Mental Health (18 Units)
This track permits an emphasis in either counseling or clinical social work, depending upon the students educational and career goals. It prepares students for entry-level positions in a variety of settings and for graduate work in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or marriage and family therapy. Students planning to enter a graduate program should become familiar with the prerequisites for their specific program.

Substance Abuse Treatment & Prevention (18 Units)
This advisement track offers courses for students planning to work with drug/alcohol dependent clients and their families. Once students complete a bachelor’s degree in Human Services with this track, they are eligible to take the California Association for Alcohol / Drug Educators Certification Exam.

Certification as an Addiction Treatment Counselor
The Human Services Department is sponsored by the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators. This means that they can help streamline student applications for this certification, since they have already evaluated our courses as meeting the requirements for this certification. When students are ready to apply for this certification, they should contact the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs. They should tell them they are with CSUF Human services Department which is sponsored by CAADE. This will streamline their application.

Supervised practicum (45 hours)
Clinically Supervised Externship (255 hours)
Total hours at an approved substance abuse treatment agency/facility= 200 hours
This means that students can get those 200 hours done by serving at a substance abuse agency in two of the following courses: 396, 495 or 496 since each course requires 120 hours each and they only need 200.
Starting in 3 months (6/2019) students may take the Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California Exam through CAADE

Elementary Education (18 Units)
This track is for students who are planning careers in teaching elementary school. One of the admission requirements for the multiple subject credential program is to establish subject matter competency by passing the Multiple Subject CSET. In order to strengthen weak academic areas, students are advised to take courses in subject areas where they feel least prepared. Students may obtain further information regarding teaching credential requirements in the Center for Careers in Teaching (CCT) located in EC-379 (657-278-7130). The CCT website www.fullerton.edu/cct provides detailed information about the CSET and other credential admission requirements. The following courses will assist students in preparing for the CSET.

Gerontology (18 Units)
This track serves as a valuable adjunct for students preparing to work directly or indirectly with older persons. Career opportunities for students who have academic preparation in gerontology are available in community agencies servicing the older adult, long-term care facilities, and hospitals, senior citizen living facilities, and community recreation and senior centers.

Persons with Disabilities (18)
This track is designed for students who desire to serve, directly or indirectly, persons with disabilities and their families. It prepares students to work in a variety or community agencies serving persons with disabilities. Academically, it assists in preparing students for entry into a special education teaching credential program and/or the master’s degree in special education.
