ABOUT THE CURATOR

Brett S. Goldberg, Ph.D. - In September 2022, Brett joined Cal State Fullerton as the first Assistant Director of the newly created Sexual Violence Prevention & Advocacy Services in Student Wellness.  Brett earned their Ph.D. in Justice Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Gender Studies from Arizona State University.  Brett's research partnered with survivors of campus-based sexual violence and resulted in the concept of home work, the individual and collective labor we engage in to come to feel at home in our bodyminds, relationships and communities.  Brett is an academic, activist, community organizer, and advocate for victim/survivors.

 

ABOUT THE Display

Since 2001, April has marked Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States.  Stemming from decades of grassroots activism against sexual and gender-based violence, SAAM marks a collective recognition of the impacts of rape culture and cycles of violence in our lives and communities.  Sexual Violence Prevention & Advocacy Services (Health Services, CSUF) presents this exhibition on the social, cultural, interpersonal, and historical impact of SAAM.  This exhibit features physical objects representative of SAAM - t-shirts from "The Clothesline Project" and jeans to represent "Denim Day" - as well as a curated collection of physical and e-books, journal articles, and websites for awareness, education, and prevention of sexual violence and related experiences.
