Inclusive Certificate
Introductory
The focus of this certificate is to help faculty examine their beliefs about human diversity in all of its forms, deepen cultural competency in the classroom and workplace, and gain knowledge across the broad range of diversity issues. Through direct engagement and community building, the variety of workshops, faculty learning communities, and trainings for the INCLUSIVE certificate examine issues of diversity and higher education, with a specific focus on concerns at CSUF. INCLUSIVE offerings encourage participants to explore their own beliefs about diversity, gain knowledge about how diversity and cultural identity influences higher education, and to develop cultural empathy and humility to create inclusive classrooms and workplaces.
- Look for workshops tagged INCLUSIVE in the FDC Newsletter emailed out every Friday. Each inclusive training will provide the amount of credit. Once you have completed 12 INCLUSIVE credits through different workshops and trainings, you can submit a list of your courses and complete an online reflection found at
INCLUSIVE Reflection
. - To be awarded an INCLUSIVE certificate, your reflection answers must demonstrate reflective thought and provide examples for each question. Courses and the written reflection must be completed and submitted within a two-year timeframe.
Advanced
The Advanced INCLUSIVE certificate demonstrates sustained commitment to diversity and inclusion at CSUF. Meeting these requirements for the Advanced certificate means that you have over 25 hours of training and interaction on human diversity.

Mindful Certificate
The focus of this certificate is to help individuals grow personally and professionally by learning and applying mindful techniques to themselves and their teaching. Workshops will provide information on ways to improve your work-life balance through wellness, stress management, gratitude, health practices, and more. The goal is to help you increase your own quality of life, which will then create a more authentic teacher in the classroom.
- To complete the MINDFUL certificate, complete 4 workshops tagged as "MINDFUL" in the FDC Newsletter emailed out each Friday.
- To be awarded a MINDFUL certificate, you must submit a reflection. Your answers must demonstrate reflective thought and provide examples for each question. Reflection link can be found at MINDFUL Reflection Submission

Impact Certificate
IMPACT (Intentional and Meaningful Pedagogy to Achieve Classroom Transformations) Certificate
This certificate addresses the basic pedagogical elements that make high-impact practices so transformative and guides you to apply high-impact practices to a new course or an existing course that you want to improve. By completing the certificate, you will:
- Strengthen your ability to apply pedagogical principles recommended as effective practice for decades
- Understand several high-impact practices - particularly ones you may not have experienced as a student
- Engage with like-minded colleagues who want to energize their teaching
- Develop a plan for incorporating high-impact practices in your teaching
- Document your professional development efforts as part of the faculty evaluation cycle
To complete the IMPACT certificate, take any 4 workshops tagged "IMPACT" on the FDC Newsletter emailed every Friday. Then submit a list of courses, along with a completed IMPACT Reflection
. Answers must demostrate reflective thought and provide examples. Workshops and written reflection must be completed and submitted within a two year timeframe.
IMPACT2 (IMPACT SQUARED) Certificate*
The purpose of this certificate is to further develop knowledge of high-impact practices and to discuss types of application. Participants will continue on their path of learning by completing Learning Option 1 or Learning Option 2, and must also complete one of the written activities below.
*Participants must complete the IMPACT certificate before starting the IMPACT SQUARED certificate. Workshops completed in this certificate must be additional workshops completed after completing the IMPACT certificate.
Learning Option 1
- 3 additional workshops labeled IMPACT beyond those taken to complete the initial IMPACT certificate
- 1 Lunch and Learn labeled IMPACT
- Completion of the Written Submission assignment described below
Learning Option 2
- 4 additional workshops labeled IMPACT beyond those taken to complete the initial IMPACT certificate
- Completion of the Written Submission assignment described below
The Written Submission is required for all participants. After completing the other requirements, complete one of the following:
- Submit a classroom assignment that has been created or changed, demonstrating the application of IMPACT material
- Submit teaching methods (lecture, discussion, activity) that have been created or changed, demonstrating the application of IMPACT material
- Submit an alternative creative idea demonstrating the application of IMPACT material (this must be pre-approved by the FDC in order to fulfill this requirement). To complete this, email fdc@fullerton.edu for approval of creative idea before starting your written submission.
Submit a list of courses, along with a completed Written Submission through the IMPACT Squared Submission Form
. Written submissions will be reviewed and feedback will be sent back. To be awarded an IMPACT SQUARED certificate, your submissions must demonstrate reflective thought and details.
Workshops and Written Submission must be completed and submitted within a two year time frame.
Other Certificates
WAC - Writing Across Curriculum
CSUF values writing and the ways writing can enhance learning in any class. To support faculty and staff interested in teaching with writing, the Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) Program is offering a WAC Certificate through the FDC. This certificate program will familiarize candidates withWAC theory and practice and enable them to incorporate meaningful writing assignments into their courses.
WAC Certificate recipients will receive a letter of commendation from the AVP of Academic Programs for their FAR files, an electronic certificate (“badge”) for their webpage, and eligibility to apply for a grant of up to $1000 for travel to a WAC- or writing-related scholarly conference. Those accepted to the certificate program will also receive a copy of John C. Bean’s Engaging Ideas, a book rich with ideas
for teaching with writing and critical thinking.
Candidates will have two academic years to complete certificate requirements. Portfolios and travel grant applications will be evaluated by the WAC Advisory Committee.
Certificate Requirements:
- WAC Workshops (one of the following):
- “Proposing or Revising Your Upper-Division Writing Course” and any two additional WAC workshops
- “Using Writing to Learn in Any Class", “Designing Effective Writing Prompts for Any Class", “Providing Formative Feedback for Student Writers” and any two additional WAC workshops
- A Portfolio containing all of the following:
- 2-3 writing-to-learn activities relevant to the candidate’s discipline
- 1 prompt for a formal writing assignment relevant to the candidate’s discipline
- A 500-750 word reflection that 1) describes the course and learning outcome(s) to which the candidate’s activities and prompt apply (150 words or fewer), 2) explains how and to what end these activities and prompt would be used in the described course, and 3) reflects upon how the WAC workshops will inform the candidate’s future teaching.

Faculty Teaching and Learning Certificate
This certificate is specifically designed for faculty who would like to dig deeper into best practices regarding teaching and learning in higher education. The certificate consists of 5 modules which will be offered on Friday’s over the course of a semester. Participation limited to 40 faculty members each semester.

Graduate Student Teaching Learning Certificate
The Graduate Student Teaching certificate. The FDC offers a certificate specifically designed for graduate students who are interested in learning more about teaching in higher education. The certificate consists of 5 modules, completed over the course of a semester. Space is limited to 40 graduate students each semester.

EPM Badge
EPM (Equitable Pedagogy Module) Badge
The EPM helps faculty know more about who our students are and what evidence-based instructional practices have proven most effective at facilitating learning for students from diverse backgrounds and with varying degrees of preparation.
After completing this Equitable Pedagogy Module (EPM) you will be able to:
- explain some of the academic differences among different student populations and some of the root causes;
- articulate the importance of equity-minded instruction (such as those strategies focused in the Equitable Pedagogy Module) in supporting the success of students from diverse backgrounds; and
- identify specific strategies you can implement in your teaching that support learning for students from diverse backgrounds.
The EPM should display on your Canvas Dashboard. If it doesn't, login to Canvas, in the Canvas navigation on the far left click 'Courses' and then scroll down and click 'All Courses'. You may find the course in the listing that opens. If you still can not locate the course, email the FDC at fdc@fullerton.edu.
