Lori Phelps received the Doctor of Psychology degree in 1996 from United States International University. She completed the Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from USIU in 1994 and the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology from Loyola Marymount University in 1988.  Dr. Phelps’ specialty areas include treatment and prevention of addictive disorders, online education, and Hispanic language and culture. 

Dr. Phelps is a currently a full-time lecturer in the Human Services Department, where she developed the Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention track for the Bachelor's degree in Human Services. The track is the only accredited bachelor’s level addiction counselor training program in California. Completion of the degree track prepares a student to sit for the certification exam offered by the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators (CAADE:   www.caade.org) as one of the final steps in becoming a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor (C.A.T.C.).

Dr. Phelps is currently the president of CAADE.  She co-authored   Trying to Stop the Runaway Train: Knowledge, Skills and Practice for Alcohol and Drug Prevention   (2001) for which she was awarded the Cal-State Fullerton Outstanding Author award in 2004. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and has been a consultant for the California Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse since 2004.
