Brown-Barraza Graduate Student Scholarship
The $1000 Brown-Barraza Graduate Scholarship is awarded every Fall to an AMST Graduate Student. It is named in honor of Courtney Brown and Ian Barraza, two exceptional alumni of the American Studies MA program who passed away tragically young. Created by Professor Leila Zenderland upon the ending of her tenure as chair of the department, the scholarship is funded by donations from current and retired faculty members, including a matching donation from Faculty Emeritus Mike Steiner.
Who may apply: Any current AMST graduate student who has completed at least 6 units in our program. The scholarship is awarded based on a combination of academic talent and financial need.
Application procedures: To apply you need to obtain an application form, which is available in the department office (GH-313) and on the department website. Applications should be turned in to the Department Office (GH-313) or emailed to Sandra Medina.
