Overview
UPS 260.102 as well as Article 27 of the Unit 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement govern the granting of sabbatical leave to eligible faculty. It is recommended to review both thoroughly prior to submitting an application.
In order to qualify for a potential sabbatical leave, faculty must submit the Sabbatical Leave Application. The due date for applications is 5 p.m. October 15th (or 5pm next business day if October 15 falls on a weekend). Applications will be submitted through an online application process.
Faculty must also submit a Professional Leave Report at the conclusion of their Sabbatical.

The application requires: Proposal Title, Proposal Description (75 word max.), indication of any resources required, indication of financial interest (and submission of a Statement of Economic Interests if needed), Proposal Work Product (250 word max.), and an agreement acknowledging one’s commitment.

Application Narrative

The application narrative shall provide a description of the plan and timeline for research, scholarly or creative activity, instructional improvement, or faculty training. The narrative shall include (1) the significance of the project in context of the relevant discipline, (2) the impact of the project on applicant and CSUF, and (3) the likelihood of completion based on the proposed timeline, possession of needed skills, expertise, and resources. Applicants are strongly encouraged to write their narrative for a general academic audience as most of the evaluators will not be specialists in their field.
