Dr. Terri Patchen

Faculty Coordinator, Scholarly and Creative Activities

Terri Patchen joined the Titan faculty as a professor in the College of Education after graduate studies that included two Masters (in Latin American Studies and Urban Planning) and a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA. The recipient of a Spencer Research Fellowship and a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Guatemala, Terri was also awarded the CSUF Faculty Recognition for Scholarly and Creative Activity in 2013 and 2016, and the CSUF Faculty Recognition for Teaching in 2014. Published in the preeminent journals in the field (e.g., Teachers College Record, 2006; Science Education, 2008, 2013; Journal of Teacher Education, 2011; The Urban Review, 2012; Research in Science Education, 2015), her scholarship focuses on essential components of educational development: classroom participation, collaboration, and cultural competency. She also regularly presents at national and regional conferences, reviews manuscripts for multiple journals, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Science Teacher Education. As a former Chair of the CSUF University Faculty Research Committee, Terri has reviewed many faculty intramural grant proposals and designed workshops to support faculty grant applications. Additionally, in her role as a Faculty Fellow for Student Creative Activities and Research (SCAR), she supports the high-impact practice of student research at all levels. As the FDC Faculty Coordinator for Scholarly and Creative Activities, Terri provides workshops, guides faculty-learning communities, consults individually with faculty regarding their scholarly and creative concerns, and assists on related initiatives, as needed.
