- REPORT SUSPECTED CHEATING!!! - If you suspect it, report it! This puts students on notice (See the linked Office of Student Conduct reporting form). The Office of Student Conduct will continue to meet with students, virtually, for incidents of academic dishonesty and misconduct for the remainder of the semester.
- How to Reduce Cheating in Online Assessments PDF – This PDF includes some practical tips to prevent or reduce cheating for two common learning assessment activities, namely testing and homework assignments.
- Help students understand what plagiarism is - CSUF Definition of Plagiarism
- Excelsior OWL - you can embed their content into your course (review paraphrasing, synthesizing, citing etc.)
- Research Article on Supporting Academic Honesty in Online Courses
- Break apart the major projects or writing assignments into multiple “drafts”.
- Utilize group work and peer review.
- Come up with alternatives to written assignments.
- For exams, have the open only during the class period.
- Use tools like Turnitin , Respondus Lockdown Browser & Monitor , and ProctorU (100% online only). Respondus is currently hosting daily webinars .
- Set better Canvas quiz settings
- Change up assignments and questions - rewrite questions so they can’t be “Googled”
- Google your name and the words “Course Hero”, “Chegg”, or “Quizlet” to see if any of your assignments or exams are online.
