IT Reminder - Outlook Email Cybersecurity Updates
External email tags and banners
To provide an additional level of cybersecurity, CSUF has implemented [External] email tags and banners to help users identify email origins.
- Emails received from outside our campus email system will have a cautionary orange banner "[External Email Use Caution and Confirm Sender]" and [External] in the subject line.
- Emails received from external campus partners are identified with a cautionary blue banner “[CSUFexternal service. Use caution and confirm sender.]”
Report a suspicious email within Outlook
A new “Report As Suspicious” button has been added to incoming email messages in Outlook. If you receive a suspicious email, use this button to alert the Information Security Office. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact the IT Help Desk IMMEDIATELY!
When you receive a suspicious email that claims to have been sent by IT and instruct you to do something, please call the IT Help Desk and verify.
