Style The Page Header

The page header includes website name, searching and resources, and site navigation.  The page type doesn't change the data, but will change what is presented.

The Page Header

When we talk about the header, we are talking about the top of the page and not the headers within your content (h1, h2, h3, etc).  The header region starts with "Cal State Fullerton" and continues down through your top navigation and breadcrumbs.

Depending on the style you choose some things like the top tab navigation and breadcrumbs can be hidden, but not removed from your site.  This setting is a page by page property and will not impact the way other pages are setup.

Properties

In the edit mode for OmniCMS you will see a Properties tab appear above the page you're working on.  This is in the same area as the Preview and Edit tabs.

Make sure you are checked out on the page and the light bulb icon has been highlighted.  If you are not checked out the parameters for the properties section will not appear.

Standard Header

normal header example

The standard header is the default option and great for all pages.  The Cal State Fullerton logo, website name, division, portal login, resources, and search area all display in a white background.  The top tab navigation is shown in the Titan blue color.

If you have an image in box 1, it will appear under that header and tab navigation.  To keep this header you do not need to go into the properties unless the page is set to another header type.

Landing Page Header

landing page example

The Landing Page style is meant to create a major splash screen for your website.  It can be on the homepage, or a landing page for a section of your site.

It still has all the navigation and resource features without separation from the content below.  The top of the page will automatically darken to help keep that area as readible as possible for all users.

When you scroll down on the page the header will revert to the standard color backgrounds.

Presentation Page Header

presentation page example

The Presentation style does not include tab navigation, search, Portal login, or Campus resources.

It is meant for pages within your site that act like a landing space for something that you want to promote like an event, promotional item, or short lived content.  The goal is to create a page that you can easily edit, has limited distractions, and allows you to focus on the content.

The website title is still functional so users can always get back to your website homepage.

Changing The Page Header

To change the header style you must be checked out on the page.  That will allow you to see the parameters section of the properties.  To check out the page make sure the light bulb icon is highlighted.  The light bulb icon is located in the upper right corner of the Omni CMS interface between the Save and Publish buttons.

Step 1)
Properties Menu

When you click on the Properties tab in the Omni CMS toolbar you should be taken to a page that has a long list of fields and input boxes.  This page should have a left navigation that says Properties and Title and Metadata are bold.

If you do not see this, verify that you are checked out on the page.
