Biosketch:
Maria Koleilat, DrPH, MPH is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Health Science at California State University, Fullerton where she teaches nutrition and statistics. Dr. Koleilat’s research focuses on the interplay of early-life risks and environmental factors in the etiology of childhood obesity. She is the Principal Investigator of an FNS/USDA-funded research study titled “Improving Periconceptional Health through the Prevention of Excessive Gestational Weight Gain: From Research to Intervention.”  The goal of this study is to develop and evaluate a generalizable and sustainable intervention to prevent excessive gestational weight gain and postpartum weight retention among WIC participants. She has successfully authored and co-authored manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals such as Maternal and Child Health, the American Journal of Public Health, and Obesity
