Biosketch:
Dr. Jie Weiss is a Professor in Health Science department and the Associate Director of the Center for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and Obesity Prevention at California State University, Fullerton. She is a health psychologist by training with research focus on behavioral science. She has extensive research experience in application of cognitive and behavioral science in health promotion and disease prevention among culturally diverse populations, particularly among Asian and Latino ethnic groups. She has been Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, Program Evaluator, and Consultant for numerous projects funded by National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Cancer Institute, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Defense, California Tobacco Related Disease Research Program, California Office of Traffic Safety, California Dairy Council, and other California State research programs. Dr. Weiss developed the descriptive MAU Decision Making model and is the leading scholar on the application of this model in health behavior promotion to examine people’s risk perception, emotions, lifestyle choices, and their relations to health outcomes. She also investigates motivations for health related behavior change and maintenance. In addition, her research incorporates “real-time” data collection and mobile health technology to record people’s thinking, emotion, and health related behavior choices. She has served as Editor and Associate Editor for two scientific journals. She is also an invited mentor for research projects conducted in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at UCI funded by National Institute of Health.
