Dynamic Info Blocks

Field Mapping

We understand that the fields available for data entry won't meet every need.  Field mapping allows you to relabel select fields so public displays better match what your data is needing to do.

Applications, Microblogs, and Directories

Field mapping was designed for interfaces that use filters which means dynamic content.  The field mapping options are only available to use when the info block type is set to Dynamic Content.

The filter name where users can choose to sort data is the place where the new labels will display.  Updates will happen every instance of the info block so this change will happen every place on your site that it is used.

Data entry stays the same

If you wanted to call categories "Choices" that's perfectly fine; however, the info block interface will not show a content editor that field.  They will still enter the data inside categories.

The public facing pages will change the label for categories to "Choices" but that's all.  Remember to communicate field mapping decisions with your content editors to keep everyone on the same understanding.

Presentation Dashboard: Field Mapping

In the center of the presentation dashboard you'll find the Dynamic Content Setup options.  Field Mapping is the third option and it will open the field mapping editing interface.  Field mapping stays the same between all dynamic content types, so if you change from application to directory, the field mapping will stay the same.

Field Mapping Options

There are 12 items where field mapping can applied.

The Collection Name is set in the interface setup.  This is what you want to call your info block collection when using multiple files.  It can also be optionally used as the header above the content.

Categories and Tags are separate fields on each info block record that have their own editing sections.

The last items are all found within the Details section for each info block record.  The fields are found in the Styles drop down menu in the Details edit toolbar.

Remember when editing content the original value name will show, so your content editors need to be aware when a field is being mapped to a new label.

Field mapping with multiple files

The ability to group info block files means there could be field mapping across multiple pages.  To make it easier on everyone think of this process as first one wins.

Content editors have the ability to specify the order which files are loaded into web pages when they want to use info blocks.  If there are more than one file that is field mapping a value, the first file which gives an alternate value will be the one that is used.  This also means all fields on any additional info block files will use that field mapping value.

Knowing this may help to guide editors when they post files to a section.
